Economic update August 2014

Listen to a Preview

Running Time: 3:40

Date: 01/08/2014

Where's our economy heading in a world of uncertainty, at home and abroad?

The excessively long run-up to the May Budget and the ongoing shennanigans in Parliament ever since has been confidence-sapping, says our resident economist, the ever-reliable Professor Neville Norman.

Uncertainty around the world's political events, a continuing economic slow-down in China, and a Government at home that doesn't seem to be quite in control - and we may ask ourselves where we really stand at this early point in a new financial year.

Neville predicts that interest rates will remain low, but he has a warning: don't use those low figures to calculate any of your own financial calculations.
