We all want to feel comfortable and happy in the workplace, and a relaxed, easygoing atmosphere can help contribute to greater efficiency and productivity. But everyone sees things differently, says organisational psychologist Rhonda Andrews of the Barrington Centre, and it's important to understand the perspectives of others. In the worst case, as she points out, what was intended as a friendly gesture can blow up into allegations of harassment - and that does nothing for workplace wellbeing.
