2013: Year Of Clarification

Listen to a Preview

What's in store for us in 2013? Professor Neville Norman, in his New Year predictions, says it will be a "year of clarification".

As a Business Essentials tradition, Professor Neville Norman of Melbourne University presents his forecasts for the coming year in our January program. He characterises 2013 as a "year of clarification", which has a lot to do with the Federal election. Will it be another hung parliament? If the coalition parties win, will they honour their "blood promise" to kill off the mining resources rent tax and and the carbon tax? Those questions aside, Professor Norman expects growth rates to start improving late in the year, and interest rates to start rising again at the same time. He believes the Treasurer's proclaimed budget surplus will NOT be achieved and that exchange rates - always a risky proposition to forecast - will not change substantially.
