Be sure your prices don't mislead

Listen to a Preview

The price must be right. If you don't include all the ingredients in your advertised pricing, you could be guilty of misleading your customers.

"Clarity in pricing" is an important part of consumer law these days. If you advertise a product or service, you must show everything a consumer can expect to pay, or indicate that there are variable elements like exchange rates. The final price must also be the one that's most prominently displayed. Dr Michael Schaper, deputy chairman of the ACCC, says they've already investigated several breaches, and there are penalties under the Trade Practices Act for getting it wrong.
