Don't let workplace stress get you down - there are ways to keep it under control.

Tough economic times can add to stress in the workplace, by increasing pressure to perform and building on fears about job security. Other causes of stress, says consultant Meiron Lees, author of D-Stress, include bullying, harassment and office politics. He says stress can be positive when it pushes people out of their comfort zone and causes them to stretch themselves, but it's important to watch out for the danger signs. Simple daily routines can help ward off negative "thought attacks", as can efforts to inject fun into the workplace. Employers have a responsibility under OH & S law to keep stress to acceptable levels. Clear and open communication is also important: stress feeds on uncertainty.
